Sick but funny

Jason texted me an urgent message while I was on a conference call at work today.  Paul had spiked a fever of 103 and was pretty upset and feeling bad.  To put this in perspective, Paul rarely gets sick and even more rare that he would have a fever.  I ran home so I could take Paul to the doctor while Jason stayed home with Lillie for her nap.  After some bloodwork, the doctor wasn't happy with his white count level and so we had our first experience with peeing in a cup (he thought it was hilarious).  And then a chest x-ray.  And we know nothing more about what might be wrong after all of that fun.  So we are monitoring him this weekend and hoping his little body starts to feel better.  In light of this sickness, I did feel like I should share some of his funny comments from today.  Even in sickness he can be quite witty.

While buckling into the car while leaving the doctor's office "Mom, I had a lot of fun at the doctor.  Well, except for the blood sticking part."

While shopping at HyVee for "sick" food.  Paul got to pick out some popsicles. "Mom, I want those Avengers ones".  I look and look and see no Avengers to be found but then see a package with Spiderman, The Hulk and Batman "Hey, Paul these aren't actually the Avengers.  Did mom just school you about super heroes?"  "Whatever mom".

While picking up a few bottles of wine while at HyVee (obviously not sick food for Paul) he saw a display for Red Rock winery in which they had a big rock sitting by the bottles of wine.  "Mom, do they grind up that rock to put in the wine?"

While driving home he decided that when we got home he wanted to watch Polar Express because who doesn't want to watch a Christmas movie in June.  "Mom, we really need to start writing my Christmas list."  "Paul, it is only June".  "Okay, let's wait until July 4th then".

Right after that, still focused on Christmas "Mom, people that are grumpy from July to Christmas don't get any presents".


Just a excerpt of a day in the life with our little goofball.  So hard to see him feeling so bad.  He didn't eat much dinner and was in bed by 6:15 - he was asleep cuddled up with me within five minutes of laying down.  Let's hope a little sleep makes a world of difference.

This girl makes me laugh!

This video was taken last weekend and really shows the BIG personality of the little ladybug.  When she is in a good mood she is pretty darn funny.  So not only is SHE funny, I also find it hilarious that mid-way the cat trips her and she barely even notices.  Definitely a video to keep and watch many times in the future.

Finally we hit the pool!

We started the day with a trip to the library and the hope that a trip to the swimming pool would be in their future.

Lillie was much braver in the splash park than Paul was at the same age.  She got a little freaked out when her face got wet but played with a lot of the fountains.

Father's Day 2013

What a blessing to celebrate Jason's first Father's Day with both kids at home.  Ironically, we spent the day much like we spent Mother's Day....at Jester Park for a picnic. 

We even had lunch from Subway again.....

Which then deteriorated into some upset children when Paul got a little too close to Lillie's hand.

Quick trip to the natural playscape and to check out the bison.

We grilled out for dinner and enjoyed a nice dinner on the deck.  All smiles from the little man!

I wish all of our moments were this happy but unfortunately it is not the case.  This little boy can be so full of ups and so full of downs.  Gotta love this whole growing up thing - emotions and all.

Fun time with friends

We had our friend Kingston (and his parents) over for an afternoon at the park and some dinner.  First up was a walk to the park.....wagon ride for Kingston and Lillie.....bike ride for Paul.

And then Kingston decided to wallow in the mud....he made himself quite a mess!!  But it didn't slow him down one bit.

After a quick bath for Kingston and a borrowed change of clothes it was time for some wrestling!  The boys had fun being rough and tumble.

There was a whole lotta running and chasing and general noisiness going on!

Pardon my annoying voice on this video but it was so funny to see the kids playing together in Paul's room.  The best part is Lillie pointing at Paul's wall and saying "NO"....yes, the wall where Paul kicked a hole in the drywall during a massive fit.  The hole that required a drywall installer to come and patch the wall.  I haven't had enough time to repaint it yet so it remains a stark reminder of Paul's bad choice and she clearly wanted to point that out.  Smart little cookie.

Dear kids....

We love to spend time with you both but we must admit that we had a very nice time in Chicago for some adult only time.  You see Mommy had a board retreat for work and we decided to tack on an extra day at the end to enjoy just a bit more time together.  Gram and Pa were nice enough to stay with you at our house.  Paul, you were pretty excited and they said you were good for the first few days and then started to get a little stir crazy.  Lillie, you weren't so sure about mommy and daddy leaving.  But, you both had some fun and Lillie survived her first time away from mom and dad.

Daddy went to the Field Museum to check out Sue....Paul, you were thrilled when he sent this picture to you in an email....oh, and the cool dino tshirt he bought you was quite a hit as well.

 Auntie Jen and Dad took a 3 hour walking architectural tour of downtown Chicago....pretty cool stuff.

After the work stuff was over, we had some fun.....a beautiful day at Wrigley Field!

After the game, it was time for an upscale dinner at mom's favorite Asian place in Chicago...Sunda!  It was all delicious.

We had a lovely room on the 35th floor of the Four Seasons.  Nice partial lake view.

We had a blast and came back tired but refreshed.  Nothing beats the hugs and squeezes that you gave us when we got back to the house!
