It was a busy short week which is always hard to get my head around. How hard should 4 work days be? Lots of weird days and weird schedules including me needing to work from home on Friday so Jason could go to a funeral. The tricky part of working from home is that the reason I had to do it was because there were three kids that needed supervision. Kids + work doesn't always equal productivity. Add in the fact that the housekeeper was coming didn't help. So I got productive in the morning before Jason had to leave and then did my best to keep that going. Had to run out to drop Paul at basketball camp and then decided to spend some time working in the driveway so the littles could run off some steam and the housekeeper could work in peace and quiet. Here was my view from my chair.
Later in the day my sweet daughter wasn't being distracting at all......ha!
We all survived the weird day, I got some work done and we headed to BWW for dinner. The littles just had to have a very special BWW crown.
And this is the result of two days in a row of two hour basketball camp. The dude was TIRED. This is while we were parked (not safe way to drive).
This is how I found Lillie this morning in her room. Up and ready for the day with a fully made bed, her twirling dress and tiara and reading a book.
On a completely impromptu idea, we headed to a local Rhubarb Festival. GranJo recently brought some rhubarb sauce for the kids to try. Paul loved it so when we saw this festival was near us we decided to check it out. It is held in a small town and everyone was so nice. We ran into Ronald McDonald right off the bat. Have to say that I wasn't expecting that at all.

The kids enjoyed their sampling of lots of different rhubarb dishes and Paul found a booth selling rhubarb soda that he had to try.
It was hotter than blazes but we had a fun time. We hit up the local Asian market on the way home and then spent the afternoon hanging out. I think these kids could scooter every single day of the week.
Korean snacks rule! They make everyone happy.
Great weekend so far.....can't imagine what else we can squeeze in tomorrow.
We had a fun-filled long weekend. We were lucky to spend some time with another adoptive family that we met along the way during Paul's process. We've stayed in touch and got to see them last summer. They were in town so we met up at a local park for some fun. They have 3 cuties as well so we were definitely a gaggle of cuteness.

We headed to a local restaurant to meet up with our favorite Ankeny kindergarten teacher! She is from this area and was back in town visiting family. We got to hang out for a while, enjoy some pizza and then some frozen yogurt.
The frozen yogurt is sold by weight. They run a promotion where if you score exactly a certain weight then your dessert is free.....guess who won on that particular day! Sounds like it only happens once every week or two so he was definitely lucky!

We spent the day with GranJo on Monday and decided to head to the Putnam Museum. The kids stayed very entertained with this exhibit in the lobby. It launches a tennis ball up to the ceiling. Lillie looks very strong here.
And then it was into the museum. So many smiles.

Paul loves the take apart stations - you can destroy and take apart anything in the room. Great for little engineering minds.
We headed home for some playtime and then a yummy grilled dinner. I am very happy with my new planters on the deck - they are coming in nicely!

We spent time remembering the fallen and the reason for the day away from work. We are thrilled to live in a neighborhood that participates in a program that installs American flags on several key holidays during the year. It was beautiful to see so many flapping flags in the neighborhood although this picture doesn't really show how many there were.
It was an interesting school year with the mid-year transition. The kids had a great year but had the added challenge of learning the rules of two different classrooms and establishing strong relationships with two different teachers. In the end, they both learned a lot and we were blown away by the level of effort between the schools during the transition.
Here are the kids ready for their last day of school. In this case, it was was a 3 hour day which meant a fun lunch out with daddy after the short school day was done. They were all smiles for mom before leaving for school.

Our annual tradition of taking pictures with the kids in their adult size shirts with their graduation date included. It is fun to see them grow a little more each year with the intent that the shirts will fit a little more normally by the time they actually graduate. We took pictures with both teachers this year since both were pretty instrumental in a successful school year for each kid.
Kids are happy to start their fun summer. I am so happy that we landed in such a great school and look forward to another great school year starting up in the fall.
