Kindergarten field trip....check!
So the kindergarten classes at Paul's school went on their single field trip of the school year. Center Grove Apple Orchard is a popular place this time of year.....and we made it BUSY today! All 5 sections of kindergarten hopped on buses and headed to the orchard. Yes, that is 125 kindergartners. Insane. There were plenty of parent helpers there to make it all happen smoothly. I took the day off work and joined the fun...the hot, hot fun....because 90 degrees make perfect sense to head to the apple orchard! The weather has been so wacky this year. The kids rode on the school buses and most of the parents drove separately....I was lucky enough to be one of those parents! Not sure I could have handled the bus ride with all of those kids!

They divvied up the kids and each parent helper was assigned to watch their own kid and one or two others. Check out the group I got to be buddies with!

Lots of fun in the corn pool. The kids loved jumping, swimming and generally just messing around in the corn pool.

Look how cool Mrs. Balvanz is....she got right on the jumping pillow. I actually took my turn on there too. It is quite a workout!

We had a lot of fun today. It was warmer than I would have liked but we made the best of it! I am so glad that I was able to be there to see Paul interact with his classmates. What a great day!

The one where Paul finally takes swimming lessons
So we have been terrible parents and have not put Paul into swimming lessons. Yeah, so he's 5-1/2 years old and while he likes to go to the pool, he has never taken official lessons. Terrible. So instead of throwing him into group lessons when we knew he would be behind the others in his class, we decided to pony up for some private lessons first. They actually started last weekend. Due to a scheduling issue this week, the lesson got pushed to Sunday morning. Yeah, great. So we started the day with cinnamon and raisin pancakes.
And then we got ready and headed to the Y. And unfortunately the childcare center was not open! So, Lillie got to hang out by the pool with me. Nice of them to bring over a bucket of toys for her to play with.
Check out our little swimmer. He is doing pretty well - and was VERY good on his back today!
Two more private lessons and then we will evaluate whether he is ready for a group lesson or if we will hire them for another round of private lessons. He has really enjoyed the lessons so far which makes me feel good....at least he isn't dreading them every week! They are certainly pushing him as far as putting his face in the water and trying to swim his way back to the wall of the pool from a decent distance.

When Dad's Away.....
....we try to have fun without him - but it sure is hard! Jason snagged one last camping trip this weekend and of course Paul decided to have a really rough day. He even fell asleep for a few hours in the middle of the day. But later in the afternoon he seemed a bit more chipper and while Lillie wrapped up her nap, we spent some time outside.
A little snack of kiwi and banana cheered him up a bit.
We ran a few errands - including our trip to Michael's for cookie supplies and Home Depot for a new front door handle and some mums for the front planters. The kids were being good on our errand trip so instead of heading home to cook dinner, I took a detour to Buffalo Wild Wings as a treat. They were THRILLED beyond belief.
Lemonade? Yes please!

She went with white milk. And FINALLY wore her sunglasses the right way.

Zombie Burger anyone?
Paul has been begging to go to Zombie Burger but after some not so great days at school, he had to EARN it back. So last weekend he worked hard on Saturday and won a trip to the yummy burger shop. It was a beautiful evening so we sat outside...and met our friends Amber, Nick and Kingston! Unfortunately Daddy was home sick.

Bonding over the love of games on a phone!
After dinner we went for a walk around the East Village. All the kids were loving Nick...I mean, what's not to love about a guy willing to roll around on the sidewalk with them? Lillie wasn't too sure about this group shot....
I am not sure what she said to Nick but it must have been SHOCKING.
She was far too dainty to want any part of that!
We hit the pedestrian bridge and then the Asian gardens. Love these ham balls!
Kingston is a mean planker!
So nice to spend time with good friends.....and to see good behavior from the little man to let him earn a fun treat.

Cookie making fun
Paul really wanted to make cookies....so I grabbed supplies for some good old chocolate chip cookies from the pantry.....to hear the whines of "no, I want to frost them!" Ugh. So then I dug up the supplies to make sugar cookie dough instead.
Then we hit up Michael's for some fun cookie cutters and decorating supplies. Evidently Paul is already ready for Halloween......so that is what went in the cart!
Cookies were cut and baked...they cooled....and then came frosting!

My cookies are completed!
Paul took a bit longer...with googly eyes on almost every cookies and lots of sprinkles and sugar!
He only sampled about 5 googly eyes....and check out his completed cookies.
